Developments in the early days took place under the inspired leadership of a director graduated from the famous Harvard University, Francis Burke. Some 75 years after its founding, Dura-Bond moved to a huge production site in Nevada. Because modern petrol and diesel engines work with higher temperatures, Dura-Bond developed a new material for valve seats: the powder metal valve seats mentioned above.
This is how powder metal seats work
Dura-Bond discovered that the traditional materials used to make seats were not as resistant to the modern performance of engines. Less able to withstand high temperatures and wear. The solution: rings made of sintered powdered metal. A high-tech product patented by Dura-Bond. The composition of the powder metal used ensures longer life, even in tough conditions. Another clever invention by Dura-Bond: powder metal seats that incorporate a thin copper structure, themselves very appropriately called the 'Killer Bee' powder metal seat.
