When it comes to sport compact, pistons from ICON Pistons are truly indispensable. The three different types of pistons offer a product for every vehicle with high quality materials and the most specialised technologies such as Line2Line coating. Also, in this blog you will find a full brochure with all the pistons including applications, sizes, WG numbers and more!
ICON Pistons is part of the company UEM Pistons, which started producing pistons 100 years ago. Today, the company supplies different brands of pistons for the most varied applications. Wilmink Performance regularly provides brands such as Silv-O-lite, KB Automotive Hyper, and ICON Pistons. In this blog, we will mainly look at the latest brand: ICON Pistons. This brand specializes, among other things, in Sport Compact applications and has various pistons in its range for different engines.
ICON pistons are made in line with the latest technologies and produced by UEM pistons for use in the high street performance engine block or other racing applications. Among other things, the brand specializes in the Sport Compact application, for which different types and sizes of pistons are available for the following brands: Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota. ICON pistons are produced in 2618 and 4032 aluminum.

The advantage of 2618 is that it has a lower silicon content than 4032. The lower silicon content causes more thermal expansion, which is why 2618 pistons must have a greater clearance between the piston and cylinder wall. This results in higher stability and less friction, which means a longer service life and less wear on the piston. | This material contains 11% silicon and can be fitted with a smaller clearance between the piston and cylinder wall. A side effect of the extra silicon is that the piston skirt and pins have a longer service life. |
The sport compact range includes three different types of pistons: Premium, Elite, and Extreme.
The premium line is designed as a piston for specific applications. The pistons include CNC-milled recesses for the valves and a solid piston head. The latter allows for modifying the piston head to the desired compression ratio. In addition, ICON pistons feature dual forced pin oiling, which means that the piston pin is provided with dual lubrication, and the finishing process gives them a beautiful glossy layer. The premium products come in 2618 or 4032 aluminum alloys.
The Elite series is the perfect piston for extreme performance situations. These pistons also have another special feature: an anodized spring groove and piston head. Anodizing distributes the heat better and improves combustion efficiency, which ensures less wear in extreme situations. This line is only available in 2618 aluminum alloy.
For a high-quality piston, customers choose ICON's Extreme series. The 'Extreme' pistons have three protective layers. Among other things, these pistons have the special Line2Line coating, which we will discuss in more detail later in this blog. They are also fitted with an anodized piston head and spring groove. In addition, an extra layer is added to these products in the form of the Ultratherm CM. The effect of this coating can be seen in the video below. The Extreme series is made only of 2618 or 4032 aluminum alloy.
As mentioned, the Line2Line coating is used in ICON's 'Elite' and 'Extreme' series. This coating significantly impacts the performance and durability of pistons and provides a significant improvement. Using Line2Line on an ICON piston skirt offers the following advantages:
