Cylinder liners are the running surface for the pistons in an engine. The perfect solution when the original cylinders are worn and an oversized piston is no longer an option.
Dry cylinder liners are mounted with an interference fit in the existing bored cylinder. Often a flange rim is used that rests on the cylinder surface. Wet cylinder liners are mounted directly in the engine block and sealed with rubber tendons. Wet cylinder liners are in direct contact with the coolant. These are also equipped with a flange and rest on a support edge in the engine block.
The choice depends on the engine's application, build, and demands.
Before installation, the liner and engine block must be carefully measured and, if necessary, modified to ensure a perfect fit. Precision is key, and you'll need appropriate tools to insert the liner without causing damage. Therefore, this is best left to overhaul companies that have the right tools.
