Intercoolers

An intercooler is used in a vehicle with a turbocharger or compressor. The intercooler is an air cooler which cools the compressed air from the turbocharger or compressor before it enters the engine. By compressing the air going through the turbo or compressor, the air becomes warm, which is detrimental to the engine. This is because hot air expands and the filling ratio of the engine decreases as a result. The intercooler cools this air, which increases the filling ratio and thus the efficiency and power of the engine. The intercooler is often mounted just behind the front bumper, under the radiator. The intercooler is quite sensitive to stone chippings and contamination, so it can leak and require replacement.
