What are bearings? Bearings reduce friction between two parts. In this way, parts with low resistance can move together.
Bearings can be made of different materials, such as aluminium, bronze/lead bronze and copper. In addition, multiple materials can also be used, such as tri-metal bearings, which contain three types of metal. Besides materials, there are a number of other options, such as larger bore holes or oversize bearings.
At Wilmink Engine Parts, you can buy bearings from brands such as ACL, King Engine Bearings, Kolbenschmidt and, of course, our private label.
Wilmink Engine Parts not only supplies car engine bearings, but also various bearings for other applications.
From our warehouse, we supply a wide range of car bearings for various common applications from brands such as Kolbenschmidt and ACL. These brands offer bearings for various car brands, for example bearings for BMWs, Volvo cars and Peugeot cars.
For the heavy-duty industry, we offer bearings that can be used for various vehicles. For example, for trucks or agricultural vehicles. We also offer bearings for maritime and industry. These applications require products with great resistance and perfect performance. Wilmink Engine Parts also supplies products specially made for these industries.
By offering bearings with specific options, the bearing can last longer and withstand the forces of these larger vehicles. For example, an oil bridge improves lubrication and thus the durability of the product. The Kolbenschmidt brand also offers polymer coated bearings. These are made with a view to reducing CO2 emissions. These bearings use an aluminium alloy and an additional polymer layer. This ensures wear resistance, resistance to dirt and high temperature. As a result, the bearings are 20% stronger.
Vehicles that require high resistance and power, like the heavy-duty sector, demand top-quality products. Additional options can also be added for performance, including coatings for reduced friction, wear resistance and lower temperature sensitivity. We offer autosport bearings from brands such as ACL, Clevite (MAHLE) and King Racing.
You can read more about our performance bearings on our performance website. For example, in one of our many blogs.

At Wilmink Engine Parts, we specialise in engine parts, so we sell different types of bearings, but we mainly offer sliding bearings and sleeve bearings and not radial ball bearings or roller bearings. The sliding bearings are mostly used in the engine block, for example crankshaft bearings and conrod bearings. Sliding bearings contain no rotating parts and need oil to be lubricated in order to reduce frictional resistance.
In crankshaft bearings (or main bearings), engine oil is forced under pressure through small openings, called lubrication channels, so that the crankshaft has oil between crankshaft and crankshaft bearing at all times. Like other plain bearings, friction is very minimal so there is little internal resistance.
When losing oil pressure or when oil of insufficient quality is present, damage to the main bearings occurs very quickly. Usually, main bearings last a car life unless there is a lack of lubrication. When the engine block is overhauled, the main bearings are usually replaced along with it.
Here it is important to carefully check the main bearing journal on the crankshaft; if any damage has occurred here, the crankshaft should be reground, and oversize bearings fitted. Next, the clearance should always be measured before assembly.

The connecting rod bearings are located in the connecting rod and therefore require external lubrication in the form of an oil film layer. For this reason, this type of bearing fails very quickly if no oil (pressure) is present or if the wrong oil with wrong lubrication properties is used.
Each connecting rod has two connecting rod shells, an upper part and a lower part. The upper shell is generally the most heavily loaded as it has to endure the piston's working stroke and transmit this force to the crankshaft. Also, connecting rod bearings of high-revving engines are sensitive as they are subjected to extreme speeds. Faulty or worn connecting rod bearings have big consequences for an engine block where, in an extreme case, a connecting rod can come out through the engine block.
When replacing the connecting rod bearings, check carefully that the running surfaces on the crankshaft are undamaged and smooth. If this is not the case, the crankshaft should be reground in combination with an oversized bearing.

The camshaft bearings, as the name implies, support the camshafts. The engine oil is pressed through small openings, called lubrication channels, so that the camshaft is provided with oil between camshaft and camshaft bearing at all times. Like other plain bearings, friction is very minimal so there is little internal resistance. When losing oil pressure or when oil of insufficient quality is present, damage to the plain bearings occurs very quickly.
Usually, camshaft bearings last a car life unless there is a lack of lubrication. When the cylinder head is overhauled, the camshaft bearings are usually replaced as well. It is important to carefully check the running surfaces on the camshaft for wear or pitting.

Besides these three popular bearings, we also have several other types in our range.
Thrust bearings
The thrust bearing or axial bearing is designed, as the name suggests, to absorb axial forces, such as in the longitudinal direction of the axle. This includes the axial bearing of the crankshaft, which is loaded when the clutch is depressed. The crankshaft is then shifted by this action which the axial bearing absorbs.
Flange bearings
A set of flanges are individual flange bearings to lock the main bearings / crankshaft bearings to prevent axial play.
Balance shaft bearings
Bearings for the balance shafts are often used in smaller combustion engines to reduce vibration and imbalance. Balance shaft bearings are usually constructed according to the composition of a needle bearing. These have the advantage that they have a small installation space, high load-carrying capacity and can handle high speeds with minimal frictional resistance.

Cost of a bearing varies depending on the application, material and manufacturer. In our webshop, you will find a large range of bearings types in different price ranges.
Bearings broken? Defects come from dirt, incorrect assembly and misalignment/alignment, among other reasons. Other reasons can include improper lubrication, overload and corrosion. It is important to identify what caused the problem when replacing the bearing. If the problem is not found and fixed, the same problems may occur after replacement. You can read more about bearing defects in our blog.

Always follow the manufacturer's advice. When fitting bearings, the dimensions must be correct. This is of great importance. Kolbenschmidt offers the KS Plastic Gauge measuring strip to easily measure bearing clearance. This clearance ensures that there is enough space, creating the right oil thickness and friction. Mainly suitable for crankshaft, connecting rod and camshaft bearings in passenger and commercial vehicles. Adjustment is very important, so the camshaft should also be grounded and checked. In addition, there are lower and upper bearings. It is important that these are fitted in the right place.

Maintenance is one of the most important precautions. Checking the oil and changing the air filter on time are among other tasks that should be kept up with at the right interval. In addition, buying the right bearings and related parts, such as the crankshaft and connecting rod, is also very important.
