Pistons are part of the lower block and, together with the crankshaft and connecting rods, form the so-called "rotating assembly" or "short block". The pistons are made of aluminium or magnesium alloy and are attached to the connecting rod through the piston pin. This piston pin is secured by the circlip or piston pin locking spring.
The pistons make an up-and-down motion in the cylinders, transferring power from combustion to the crankshaft. Above the pistons, ignition takes place, pushing the pistons down with tremendous force, resulting in power.
The pistons are constructed to have low friction with the cylinder wall to minimise wear. Also, the piston should not be too heavy to contain rotating mass. In addition, the piston rings provide a seal to create compression and transfer heat to the cylinder wall to prevent overheating of the piston.
Pistons are used in engines in all industries. Below are some of these applications.
From vintage cars to the most current engines, Wilmink Engine Parts has a piston for every passenger car. Our warehouse is full of various car pistons from a complete set to separately packaged pistons.
Wilmink Engine Parts supplies pistons for various truck brands with the best performance and quality, so we can offer a solution with high quality and durability.
We also have a large availability of pistons for agricultural vehicles, for example for Yanmar or Kubota engines. If problems arise with agricultural vehicles, we understand that it is important to repair the vehicle as soon as possible. That is why we have various pistons in stock, for example from MaxiForce.
Looking for a powerful piston for your boat or ship? Then you came to the right place. For example, we offer pistons with a cooling channel, providing extra cooling.
Industrial vehicles require pistons with high resistance and power, we have a solution for that. Our range contains a wide range of pistons for industrial applications. For example, from brands such as Yanmar and Kubota.
Performance requires power and good resistance in pistons. We have pistons from brands that focus entirely on the performance professional. We also offer a custom-made option to develop the ideal piston for you.
Wilmink Engine Parts has a large range of pistons available with various options and piston sizes. We offer more than 40,000 types, including Kolbenschmidt and MAHLE pistons, as well as from our private label! This includes oversized pistons, forged pistons and pistons with a combustion chamber.
Coatings have become indispensable for pistons. Almost every performance piston these days has at least the black-coloured piston skirt coating to prevent wear and friction. However, this coating is not the only choice in this product group, as there are also several options made for specific performance applications. Not only for piston resistance and longevity but also for other purposes, such as improving performance. Brands like CP-Carrillo, MAHLE and UEM Pistons offer various options, such as piston head coatings and WPC treatment. With the latter option, the piston is more resistant to friction and wear caused by foreign particles against the piston or piston pin. In addition, oil is also preserved longer.
Besides our range of standard-sized pistons and connecting rods, we also supply custom-made parts. Wilmink Performance works together with CP-Carrillo to supply custom-made pistons and connecting rods.
Indeed, based on existing pistons, CP-Carrillo can produce new pistons. These can be reproduced exactly as the original pistons look. Of course, it is also possible to make modifications. Dozens of options are possible, from larger bores to different valve cut-outs or various types of coatings. Carrillo also offers custom-made piston rings.
Several products around the piston affect this component. Our specialists will be happy to help you put together combinations or packages of piston components for your application. The following piston parts are also available at Wilmink Engine Parts:
The pistons, together with the crankshaft and connecting rods, form the rotating assembly, also known as the 'rotating part' or 'short block'. Connecting rods are also available as custom-made products. In addition, our specialists can give personal advice on what is a good connecting rod/piston combination.

A cylinder is the part of a car engine in which the piston moves. An overhaul involves making a larger bore and then often using an oversized piston. With a cylinder liner, a larger bore can ensure that the original piston can still be used. However, it is not always possible to fit a cylinder liner, in which case the oversized pistons are used. At Wilmink Engine Parts, you can get cylinder liners as well as pistons. Moreover, our specialists can also supply a package with cylinder liners including pistons.

Piston rings consist of three different springs, which are extremely important for proper piston operation. The right piston rings and proper installation with the right clearance reduce the risk of damage and wear. Thus, some of our brands also offer ring sets with the famous three-part oil spring, which guarantees a perfect seal.
The clearance of piston rings (or piston ring gap) must have a certain value. Incidental problems still occur, because the clearance is not correctly adjusted or the springs have been standing somewhere for too long. To ensure that the piston rings are the right size, we can make piston rings to order to fit your application exactly.
In addition, did you know that not all types of materials combine pistons and piston rings? Cast iron is always possible, but there are some exceptions.
Wilmink Engine Parts even offers sets with a piston with rings. Ask our specialists for more information

The pistons are part of the lower block and, together with the crankshaft and connecting rods, form the so-called rotating assembly. The pistons are made of aluminium or magnesium alloy and are attached to the connecting rod through the piston pin. This piston pin is secured by the circlip or piston pin retaining spring.
The pistons make an up-and-down motion in the cylinders, transferring power from combustion to the crankshaft. Above the pistons, ignition takes place, pushing the pistons down with a big force, resulting in power.
Piston costs vary depending on the application, material and manufacturer. In our webshop, you will find a large range of pistons in different price ranges.

Is your piston broken? Pistons should be replaced when worn or damaged. In addition, pistons should also be replaced when the cylinders are worn and need to be re-drilled and re-honed. When the cylinder block is re-drilled and honed, an oversized piston should be considered as the bore increases. When replacing pistons and piston pins, it is recommended to also replace the circlips with them.
With a high-mileage diesel, it is better to replace the piston sooner rather than later. In addition, it is very important to always replace the piston with the same type of piston.
When replacing a new piston, also make sure everything is clean. A dirty filter can cause parts to wear faster. Piston rings, for instance, absolutely cannot stand dirt. Regular maintenance and good oil are very important to prevent wear and damage.

Always follow the manufacturer's advice. This is because things sometimes go wrong when installing pistons. We supply cases from Kolbenschmidt (WG1814892) with equipment for installing pistons, such as piston pliers. On an American V8, a piston is often easily installed, but on European applications, it is more difficult, for which this tool is very suitable.

The endurance of a piston depends on several factors, including its material, application, use and more. Performing regular and proper maintenance can extend the life of pistons.
Broken piston? A piston cannot be repaired and should be replaced when worn or damaged. We offer different tools to help you mount a piston. For example, different mounting sets, piston ring pliers, piston ring scuff bands (piston ring compressor), feeler gauges and more to make your mounting job a lot easier!

Piston slap is the tilting of the piston which can occur especially with a cold engine or because of excessive piston clearance. This is harmful to the engine and can also be clearly heard as a metallic clatter.
The piston ring gap (or piston ring clearance) is the space between the ring ends of the piston ring when mounted in the cylinder. We also offer different feeler gauges from Kolbenschmidt to measure the clearance.
