Bolts

Different types of nuts and bolts are used for each application, depending on the force required. Cylinder head bolts and flywheel bolts, for example, are constructed in such a way that they are suitable for single use; these are so-called 'torque to yield' bolts or stretch bolts. These bolts are tightened in such a way that they deform plastically and thereby go beyond their elastic limit, causing the clamped surfaces to press very strongly against each other.
