The piston rings provide the seal between the cylinder wall and the piston. Usually two compression springs and one oil scraper plate are mounted. The compression springs provide the seal between the combustion chamber and the crankcase. The oil scraper plate scrapes off the excess oil on the cylinder liner, so this oil ends up back in the crankcase. When the piston rings are worn, the compression and therefore the power decreases. The engine block can also start to use (more) oil because the seal no longer meets the specification. Excessive oil consumption is often recognisable due to blue smoke from the exhaust and, of course, a falling oil level.
When ordering new piston rings, it is important to observe the factory specifications and determine the cause of the (excessive) wear. In this category you will find the right sets of piston rings for your vehicle’s engine block. If you have any questions or would like advice, please contact our product specialists.
